Road bike tour to Lake Kaltern (Caldaro)

By road bike from Merano to Caldaro

Tour description

A dream tour along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, through idyllic wine villages to Lake Kaltern.

If you're into panoramic views, you should put this road bike tour to Lake Kaltern at the top of your list.

The tour shows its most beautiful side during the apple blossom season in spring and during the apple harvest in autumn from September.

We start at the cycle path in Val Venosta near the swimming pool in Algund, cross the wooden bridge there and head towards the Forst Brewery. We continue towards Marling, then to Cermes and to Lana, where we branch off to Lana di Sotto. Passing the parish church of Lana di Sotto, we follow the road through the apple orchards and head towards Bolzano.

From Settequerce, the South Tyrolean Wine Road takes us to the junction to San Paolo. We turn right and after a short climb reach the village center with its many winding alleys, vaulted cellars, shady wine arbors, the imposing parish church, and historic courtyards.

From San Paolo, we cycle downhill again towards Appiano and Caldaro. We follow the connecting road to Lake Kaltern, the country's most famous wine-growing region.

You can continue to Ora, head towards the railway station there, and then take the cycle path to Bolzano and Merano back to the starting point in Algund.
